The Division is responsible for the overall coordination and management of policy, research and partnership function. It serves as a centralized and coordinated hub for conducting research, developing, harmonizing, reviewing, and monitoring policies for children and families.
The functions of the Division are:
- Oversee the development, implementation and review of policies, strategies, legislation, regulations, guidelines, standards and procedures on children and family affairs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
- Coordinate the development, implementation and review of the National Children Policy and Family Promotion and Protection Policy;
- Monitor compliance with the Children Act CAP.141 and related legislations;
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of a national database on children and family affairs;
Publish reports and policy briefs to guide decision-making; - Spearhead research on children and family matters;
- Oversee dissemination of children and family research findings to relevant stakeholders;
- Oversee alignment of Kenya’s child protection and family policies with regional and international legal instruments and best practices;
- Monitor implementation of national, regional and international commitments and obligations on children and family related matters;
- Oversee the development, implementation and review of frameworks for partnerships and resource mobilization;
- Foster partnerships with public and private organizations and other relevant bodies to strengthen child and family protection; and
- Coordinate impact assessment on policy and legislative interventions on children and family affairs.
The Division comprises of the following three (3) Sections:
