Mandate
The Community Child Support Department mandate is to coordinate community child support services by empowering families and communities to provide care and protection and to advocate for child participation.
Functions
- Coordinate activities of Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) Programme
- Coordinate implementation of Presidential Secondary School Bursary scheme (PSSB)
- Coordinate Child Participation activities
- Coordinate Liaison activities of Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme (Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children)
- Coordinate Child Diversion Programme at community level
Programs
Implementation of Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) programme
Achieved Target
- Signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between State Department for Social Protection and Ministry of Health, NDMA and five County Governments of Kilifi, Kitui, Marsabit, Turkana and West Pokot in KSEIP 1.
- Scale up under KSEIP 2 to six counties of Garissa, Mandera, Samburu, Wajir, Isiolo and Tana River with over 10,000 Households registered.
- Disbursement of Anticipatory Action cash transfers to 2 counties: Garissa and Turkana
- Completed Operation Manual for NICHE implementation.
- Completed designing and development of NICHE Management Information System
- Completed designing and development of On Demand Registration tools (USSD, Web and Mobile Application).
- Registered 40,132 Households as up to July 2025, both Inua Jamii and HSNP beneficiaries
- Completed BFCI sensitization in the five Counties under KSEIP 1.
- Coordinate and Provide Presidential Secondary School Bursaries in the 290 constituencies
Achieved Targets
- AIE schedules prepared and dispatched to the counties
- 16,167 PSSB students identified and disbursed with bursaries
- Kenya Children Assembly: Establish linkage with other child participation forums
- Child participation conducted in budgeting process in 11 counties.
- Strengthen Child Protection Volunteers System
- Recruitment of 2700 CPV conducted
- 1560 CPVs appointment letters printed and issued out
- 670 CPVs Identification Cards printed and issued out.
- CPVs handbooks finalized and printed.
